My “Top 10”

Most of the time, major changes to your displays come about because, although you are “short of real estate”, you have not been able to resist getting an alluring new piece. And guess what - I just broke a months long “no glass in” spell because of that very siren call. And yes - it did result in reworking every single one of my bedroom displays. But that was a good thing because not only did all my glass and shelving get thoroughly dusted, I got the idea for this article - my best displays.

I love sapphire blue pieces displayed with olive and the blue/olive 2 tones - my favourite. I find the mixture both soothing and impactful. So much so that for 5 years, this was my main display in my bedroom. Placement of some pieces rotated but the core display remained the same.

But as the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end.” Luckily for me, that meant I got an amazing new piece - a Don Shephard for Chalet “bubble bottle.”

Same space but new display. The new “bubble bottle” is centre left foreground. The other large pieces shown to its left and right are also Don Shepherd for Chalet bottles and vases. The 4 clear crystal pieces (lower shelves) are all “picolli” Chalet pieces - true minis. My molded owls are tucked away in the middle . My Chalet ring and Christmas trees and funky animals round it all out.

But I did not abandon the “tried and true.”

Although scaled back, still a showcase display.

Reworking my bedroom glass also impacted displays in other areas. I moved my olive “tornado” vases downstairs. And love these 3 shelves as they show the different forms (candleholders, cigar bowl, vases and bowl) with the swirl base.

Sometimes “cute” wins over “showcase.”

Meet my “Buddha bellies.” Grumpy, Groucho and Gruff - Gruff is not Chalet. Note his FM Ronneby sticker - a Konstglas piece from Sweden.

Sometimes it’s symbolism.

I love that the 3 vases on the upper shelf here visually represent the 3 major Italian/Canadian glasshouses of that era - (from left to right) Lorraine Glass Industries, Chalet Artistic Glass and EDAG.

Now and then, it’s a stand-alone.

This 14” Lorraine “iris” vase needs no help to make a statement.

I love displaying a grouping of same colour or colour placement.

And last but certainly NOT least, I always love duplication and symmetry.
