Every story, fictional or real, has a beginning, middle and end. Every story has a cast of characters. Every story has a time and place. Not all of Chalet’s story has been revealed to us but our knowledge about the company has grown tremendously. Therefore, we are able to examine some of its “plot twists” and “performers” in detail. Let’s take a closer look.
For details regarding the beginning, middle and end story (history and operations) of Chalet Artistic Glass, please refer to The History pages.
Article from the September 14, 1962 edition of The Standard Freeholder which operates as a division of the Postmedia Network.
When collectors are able to put their collections into some sort of context with regard to the artists who created their treasures, collecting becomes even more personal. We are fortunate to be able to do so with our Chalet glass. This picture gallery shows the owners and founders of Chalet in 1965. They were the "official" Faces of Chalet. Top left is Chalet Maestro and chemist Sergio Pagnin. Top right is Maestro Luigi Tedesco. Bottom middle is Maestro Angelo Tedesco. For detailed biographical information regarding the Chalet "cast of characters", please refer to the article "The Faces of Chalet."
Not only have we been able to create biographies, the artists and their family members have gifted us with a sense of time and place of both the glass and the Chalet workplace. Starting in 2010 with the "Shapes & Colours of Chalet Art Glass" exhibit, the interviews for the 2011 "Shapes & Colours of Chalet Art Glass" resource books, the others that followed and their support of 50 Shades of Chalet, we have been honoured to have them share their memories and experiences, provide photographs and participate in ongoing dialogues and conversations. Most frequently we have been advised, entertained and informed by the 4 Chalet artists shown here. At left, top, Maestro Giulio Gatto at his home in 2020 posing with some of the pieces he personally made while at Lorraine, Chalet, Mosaic, Rossi and in Saint Zotique. At left, bottom, Gianfranco Guarniere on vacation in Murano. At right, top, Roberto De Marchi creating at Rossi Glass in Niagara Falls. At right, bottom, Chalet Maestro Bruno Panizzon also on vacation in Murano in 2014. To hear some of what these artists have shared with us, please refer to 2 articles: The first on March 18, 2021 "In the Words of the Artists" , and the second from September 22, 2022 "More Conversations with the Artists."
